Stay at Home Moms vs. Working Moms

The battle begins. Is it in your child’s best interest to be at home with you or at a daycare center? I have had this discussion over and over again with working moms AND stay at home moms. In my opinion, there is no right or wrong answer. I believe there are pros and cons to both environments.

Stay at Home Mom Pros: There are many great things that come with being a stay at home mom. I have seen every milestone my boys have accomplished so far. I am there every day to nurture them. Our favorite thing to do is to cuddle on the coach and read them books. I know they feel extremely loved and that is very important to me. I also love the fact that I am teaching them good morals and setting an example for them on how to be a good person. I believe that children develop their personality and character based on the early relationships they have in their life. I know they are also getting the attention they deserve.

Daycare Pros: There are so many pros as well for your child to attend daycare. It is very important for children to learn how to play and interact with other kids as well as adults. Children learn so much just by watching others and socializing. Advantage of a daycare is that there is structure. I know many daycares have a lot of activities for children, such as doing craft projects, singing, dancing and story time. The activities help them learn in every way. Also, most children who play together use their imagination and come up with silly games. Using your imagination makes your day exciting and interesting, which in turn makes you happy.

Stay at Home Mom Cons: One disadvantage of being a stay at home mom is finances. Most stay at home moms live a very frugal lifestyle. It can be stressful at times having to watch every penny you spend. Another disadvantage is wondering if your child is getting enough social interaction. Also, being a stay at home mom does get lonely at times. Moms need social interaction too.

Daycare Cons: Daycares are expensive. You have to find a back up babysitter when the daycare center is closed for Holidays, or when your child is sick. Also, your child is more likely to catch colds and other nasty viruses because they are exposed to more germs. Your child may also pick up bad habits from other children. Also, your child is being disciplined by some one else other than you.
